Our decimal system, which was
invited by the early Hindus, has 10 basic numerals called digits. The Hindu
numerial were passed on to the Arabs, who
transmitted them to western Europe. Here the digits were standardized
into the familiar 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
Our numeral can be used not only
for recording facts but also for carrying out fundamental operations.
